a few words from families I’ve supported
In Their Words
Real reflections from real families; on birth, on being heard and on what genuine support felt like.
“She was a bundle of joy and full of information. Was calm and was focused on me as an individual. She was so inclusive when supporting with the birth prep.”
“We can’t imagine our birth journey without Shannon. We were a little late in deciding to hire a doula, but despite this, Shannon offered calm, unwavering support as we quickly prepared for a home birth, something we were passionate about.
When we were told our baby was breech at 38 weeks, it was daunting, especially as we were being pushed toward a C-section we didn’t want. Shannon was our sounding board, and our steady voice of reason. She helped us understand our rights, ask the right questions, and stand our ground with confidence. Because of this, we had the confidence to be patient and let our baby turn on her own, albeit with a bit of help from Shannon’s trusty rebozo!
Thanks to her guidance, emotional support, and knowledge, we were able to have the birth experience we hoped for; safe, informed, and in the comfort of our own home.
The postnatal period brought its own challenges, especially with a tricky and sometimes overwhelming feeding journey. Shannon continued to show up with practical advice, empathy, and encouragement that made all the difference. She is also a fantastic baker, the cookies she made for us lasted a matter of days and fuelled a few of those early feeding sessions!
Her support was transformative, not just for the birth itself, but for how we stepped into parenthood. We are endlessly grateful and would recommend her to anyone looking for a truly empowering experience.”
“Shannon was wonderful, she was a good listener and a reassuring presence when needed. She always knew what to say. She had good recommendations and we could ask her anything. She was everything we needed.”
“Was probably the only person who didn’t complain about me haha! Made me understand certain things due to my autism i really struggled with certain things and she helped explain them better than anyone else, I think without her being there I wouldn’t of coped at all.”
“Shannon was worth her weight in gold for both me and my husband throughout pregnancy, birth and postnatal. Prompting us when needed, without being pushy but taking the pressure off of us to organise visits etc. supporting and reassuring us when things got challenging mentally in early labour, keeping us on track and such a support during birth. Practically hands on when needed and a great person to have for encouragement throughout a pretty quick labour & delivery! Couldn’t have done it without you”
